Textile artist Gwendolyn Magee was born in High Point, North Carolina. Her family moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1972.
She was named Visual Artist of the Year by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters in 2003 and was awarded an Artist Fellowship Grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission in 2005. She won the Mississippi Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2011.
Her work is in the permanent collections at the Smithsonian Museum of Art and the Mississippi Museum of Art.
