Biography
Jerry Butler is an artist as well as an author. He was born in 1947 on a farm near Magnolia, Mississippi. He attended Jackson State University on a scholarship for art, graduating in 1968 with a BS in Art Education. He taught art in Mississippi for two years before moving to Madison, Wisconsin, to attend the University of Wisconsin. He graduated in 2007 from UW with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
In 1999, his book, A Drawing in the Sand, was recognized for outstanding achievement for books published in 1998 by the Wisconsin Library Association. He has participated in group art shows and held solo exhibitions of his artwork across the nation.
He was Chairman of the Art Department of Madison Area Technical College. He is currently a Professor of Art Education/Public Art at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut.
