Martin J. Dain is a photographer from Carmel Valley, California. Dain photographed Oxford from 1961 to 1963, including its courthouse square, and the surrounding countryside during the last year of William Faulkner’s life.
Born in Massachusetts, his love for the writings of Faulkner convinced him to travel to Mississippi and photograph the state.
His works are featured in the book Faulkner’s World: The Photographs of Martin J. Dain, edited by Tom Rankin and published by the University of Mississippi Press, 1997.
