Artist Miram Wilson Weems was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on November 24, 1941. She attended Jackson Public Schools, graduating from Murrah High School in 1959.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi in 1963.
Weems fought for animal rights and founded the Oxford Animal Rescue League. A Kennel run by the Animal Rescue Fund bears her name. She served on many committeees, boards, and organizations during her lifetime.
Weems’s paintings were featured in the book, Mostly Mississippi, published in 2007. Her work is in collections at the Mississippi Museum of Art, The University of Mississippi Dental School, and the J.D. Williams Library. Private collections owned by President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush, Senator and Mrs. Thad Cochran and others include her work.
Weems died August 20, 2011, in Jackson.
