Biography of David Banner
Born Lavell Crump, David Banner hails from Jackson, Mississippi, where he was born in 1974. He graduated from Provine High School, graduating in 1995, and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in business. At SU, he served as president of the Student Government Association. He entered the education program at the University of Maryland, but left the program before completion to focus on his music career.
Banner was originally a member of Crooked Lettaz, a rap duo, but began his solo career in 2000.
He is a producer, musician, entrepreneur, and actor. In 2008, he was nominated for Best Producer, Best Hip-Hop Collaboration, and Best Video at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
He has acted in several movies and TV shows, including Black Snake Moan, Monk, Days of Wrath, Walking With Gods, and more.
