Biography of Mamie Davis
Blues singer Mamie Davis was born on September 24, 1940 in Erwin, Mississippi. As a child, she sang in church and school. She graduated from O’Bannon High School in Greenville in 1958. After graduation, she joined the band Herman Scott and the Swinging Kings, a local band in Greenville. She performed with The Ike and Tina Turner Review in 1961. Mamie toured with Little Milton in the early sixties from 1962 to 1965.
Davis moved to Chicago in the 1960’s. In 1968, she moved to California where she recorded 3 singles, returning to Mississippi in 1972.
Davis died on October 6, 2001 in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 61.
