Biography of Joseph Tidwell, III
Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Joseph G. Tidwell, III calls himself a self-taught writer of stage plays, screenplays, novels, short stories and poetry. He attended Los Angeles Valley College. His novel, The Original Southern Rapture, is an adaptation of his stage play produced in 1994 at the Met Theatre in Hollywood, California. The play, directed by Peter Fonda, starred Dwight Yoakam, Sally Kirkland, Badja Djola, Vanessa Marcil and Joe Unger. The novel version was published in 2013.
Tidwell has other works in progress including Palace of the Oleander Moon. It will be a two novel set. He is working on a collection of short stories set in the Mississippi Delta and elsewhere called Lookin’ Down the Barrel of a Rainy Night and a series of novellas entitled Texas Fables—The Whip Gunn Series.
His screenplay entitled A Hand Full of Dust, set in the Mississippi Delta, is the story of two sharecropper families, one white and one black, set in the heat of the Mississippi Delta in 1944. He is writing a novel adaptation of the play.
Tidwell is senior writer at Big Dawg Productions and is also an artist and sculptor. He currently lives with his wife Dollie Faye in Valley Glen, California.
