Biography of Judy Vernon
Judy Lane Vernon was born in 1945. She lives in Senatobia, Mississippi. Her first novel Cousins, published in 1985 by Random House and Dell , is an episodic novel that centers around an area in Mississippi where a plantation named Alibamo supposedly once stood. It consists of nearly-unrelated short stories about various historical, semi-mythical events. The stories cover almost 600 years of war and love, starting with a Chickasaw girl. It follows the story of Itti, a headstrong young Indian who moves to the Mississippi River. Eventually her descendants mix with the French, until one day, generations later, a young man of mixed blood picks up a guitar and becomes a rock-n-roll legend. A second edition was published in 1987. Vernon taught at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
