Biography of Louise Pond Jewell
Louise Carolyn Pond Jewell was born in Moorhead, Mississippi, in 1867 to Chester Henry Pond and Mary Almeda Gardner. Her father founded the town. She was a graduate of Oberlin College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English in 1890. Jewell was a student at Radcliffe in 1897 and attended Columbia University in 1907 to 1908. She taught school from 1891 to 1902 and married William Ogden Jewell in 1903. She was a fellow in the Bureau of Social Research from 1908 to 1909. Her works include The Conqueror (1916) and The Great Adventure (1911).
She died in 1943.
