Biography of Sidney Rickman

Sidney Rickman, a new name to add to the long list of accomplished Mississippi writers and musicians, was born on June 24, 1935 in Columbus, Mississippi. She attended the Mississippi State College for women and the University of Mississippi. Majoring in education, she was an English teacher in Birmingham. Sidney Rickman retired from the teaching profession after 35 years in 1995 and began editing books for Genesis Press, a publishing company located in Columbus, Mississippi, after her retirement.
Casinos have always interested Rickman. This statement is evident in her novel, the Joker’s Love Tune, which was published in 1998 by Genesis Press. Currently, Sidney is living in Columbus, Mississippi, and continuing her work with Genesis Press.

A Review of The Joker’s Love Tune 1999
The Joker’s Love Tune is a captivating novel that leaves the reader constantly wondering what will happen next. Sam Bennet and Abby Thompson, the protagonists, are casino personnel who come to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for shelter from their troubled pasts. Sam is a recovering alcoholic who lost his wife in a terrible accident. Abby is smart, beautiful, and independent. Yet she is also hiding secrets from years ago. Her secret is Adrian Sadonna, the antagonist. He is wealthy and has an frightening attraction to Abby. Sadonna follows Abby to the coast and brings up all the horrible memories she has tried to hide. However, Sam and Abby manage to overcome the elements of nature, bad memories, and the evil Sadonna, and their love survives.
Sidney Rickman does a wonderful job of creating a believable setting and cast of characters for this action packed love story. The reader begins to sit in suspense wondering if Abby and Sam will survive the clever tricks of Adrian Sadonna. And of course, the audience pulls for the two characters to finally fall in love. Miss Rickman is also very tasteful. Her book is enjoyable for all ages.
With the great success of The Joker’s Love Tune, it is sure that Sidney Rickman will be entertaining readers for many years to come!

When and where were you born?
I was born on June 24,1935, in Columbus, Mississippi.
Where did you attend college?
I attended college at the “W” and the University of Mississippi.
Have you always been a writer?
No. I taught English in Birmingham before retiring in 1995.
What gave you the ideas behind The Joker’s Love Tune?
I have always been very interested in casinos. Mississippi has a great number of casinos now, and they have always interested me.
What do you like about your book?
I wanted to write a clean book that would be appropriate for teenagers and grandmothers alike. I like my book because it is clean and does not contain anything that is offensive.
What are you doing now?
I am still working with Genesis Press.
