Biography
Virgia Brocks-Shedds was an African-American poet born in Carpenter, Mississippi, in 1943. She was head librarian at Tougaloo College in Mississippi. The Mississippi Library Association awards a scholarship for a minority student to attend the School of Library at the University of Southern Mississippi in her honor as she “devoted twenty-six years of outstanding service to the Humanities.” She died in 1992 and is buried in Piney Woods, Mississippi.
